Our Advanced Post-Processing service is designed for jewellers and workshops who want to significantly reduce the amount of filing, sanding and polishing traditionally performed behind the bench.
We combine manual profiling and surface preparation with a validated sequence of OTEC MAG-30 and OTEC CF 3x18 finishing processes. For suitable designs and applications, this can reduce pre-setting bench labour by up to 90%.
The result is a casting with a highly refined and polished external surface, allowing the bench jeweller to focus on the work that actually requires their expertise.
Typical Advanced Post-Processing Workflow Includes
Standard Post-Processing including
All steps from our Standard Post-Processing are performed, these include: Acid bathing, vapour honing, flow gate removal, sprue flush cut, magnetic pin finishing, ultra-sonic & ultra-sound drying and quality control.
Manual Profiling
Our jewellers carefully profile sprues and flow gate contact points with Swiss made files, they take their time to ensure all contact points are perfectly profiled.
Printing-Line Refinement
Visible printing lines are removed from accessible external surfaces (excluding inside stone galleries). Our jewellers purposely do not touch inside setting work to allow the setters to do the final refinement & polish how they prefer.
OTEC Fine Burnishing
Castings are placed in OTEC's MAG-30 magnetic pin finishing machine to provide a very fine burnish, refine the surface further and reach difficult areas, we also use OTEC's brightening compound which helps provide a brighter finish & higher shine to the surface for the further stages.
OTEC CF 3x18 Dual Stage Wet Grinding
Castings go into our OTEC CF 3x18 Disc Finishing Machine, in this step, we perform 2 stages of wet grinding, the first stage being a wet ceramic grind to provide the bulk of the cut evenly, the second stage is a wet hybrid plastic chip that refines the casting surface.
OTEC CF 3x18 Dual Stage Dry Polishing
Finally, castings go into the final OTEC tub for a final 2 stages of dry polishing, the first stage is a medium grit dry walnut media that polishes & brightens the castings, the second stage being a very fine walnut media that provides the final level of high shine to perfection. Once completed, castings go through final cleaning, including ultra-sonic, steaming & ultra-sound drying, final QC including: XRF scanning, weighing, labelling & invoicing.
